Riverside is the county seat of Riverside County.
The city if named for the Santa Ana River. Riverside is the largest city in the Inland Empire.
Riverside was founded in the 1870s beside the Santa Ana River by John W. North, a abolitionist from Tennessee,
who had previously founded Northfield, Minnesota. Many outside investors became interested in Riverside
because of the new found navel orange citrus crop that could be grown there. Thus, Riverside became an
acclaimed area for the first golf course in Southern California and first polo field. This California Gold
rush of a different kind, the Navel Orange, sparked an almost industrial revolution for Riverside. This
establishment of the citrus industry, is commemorated in the landscapes and exhibits of the California Citrus
State Historic Park in Riverside, and restored packing houses in the Downtown's Marketplace district.
As the city prospered, a small guest hotel designed in the popular Mission Revival style grew to become the
world famous Mission Inn, favored by presidents, royalty and movie stars. Postcards of lush orange groves,
swimming pools, and magnificent homes have attracted vacationers and entrepreneurs throughout the years.
Neighborhoods of Riverside are: Airport, Alessandro Heights, Arlanza, Arlington, Arlington Heights,
Arlington South, Canyon Crest, Casa Blanca, Downtown, Eastside, Grand, Hawarden Hills, Hunter Industrial Park,
